Imperial War
Museum
This
museum
tells the story of war in the 20th century from the First World
war onwards. It uses documents, photographs, art, sound recordings,
films and artefacts to do this. There is a recreation of the
Blitz and another of the First World War trenches, amongst many
others. There is also an exhibition called the 'Secret War'
covering espionage.

Directions: When you leave
the tube station cross over and go down the road immediately
opposite called Kennington Road. Continue down this road for
a short distance until you reach a major junction with Lambeth
Road. Turn left and the Imperial War Museum is directly opposite
on the other side of the road.

Imperial War Museum has publications, using the museum's
own material, for students studying for National Curriculum
Key Stages 2, 3 and 4.

The
Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret
Located in the garret of St Thomas's Church, on the site of
the original St Thomas' Hospital, the museum
has the oldest surviving operating theatre in the country, dating
back to about 1822. The Herb Garret was the storehouse for the
hospital's curative and medicinal herbs.
This is not a museum for the
fainthearted. The medical and surgical practices of the past
are brought to life in all their gory and painful reality.

London Bridge, head west out of the station road, turn left

Tower
Bridge Experience
Tower Bridge is probably one of
the most famous bridges in the world. The 'Experience'
allows you to walk along the high level walkways with views
up and down the Thames. See full size steam engines and working
models showing how Tower Bridge is operated.
